If you have been asking yourself
"Should I take my three-year old to Disneyland?"….The
answer is yes. I recently had the chance to travel with my niece
(which by cowinceadence happens to be 3). We had a great time,
my sister commented it was the 3 best days in young Hannah's life.
It's important to do things a little
different to make the best of your trip. The Unofficial Guide
to Disneyland by Bob Sehlenger is the first and I believe the
most important. This guide rates the rides, and offers great advise
on just about everything, it's a fun read as well with much of
it is done on "tougue and cheek". So with our homework
complete and an attitude that we would take it easy and make sure
to enjoy we headed off to the happiest place on earth.
We opted to stay at the Disneyland
Hotel, the outside lacks charater (that 60's look, basically a
box), once you step in you can feel it's Disney, nice, clean and
bits of Mickey Mouse all around. It was a good choice though on
the expensive side. They have a great never neverland pool, the
perfect place to relax when the lines at Disney are just too much
to handle, we were a bit surprised to find they do not have a
baby-pool, there is a hot-tub, that is kept cool enough for everyone.
When you stay at the Disneyland Hotel you are allowed in the park
1 and 1/2 hours prior to opening, on certain days. This is a must
we were able to hop on many rides during this time with little
or no wait. One disappointing factor on the day we went early
not all the park was open, so we were not able ride some of the
newer more adult type rides that are known for their long lines.
We started our day on the Matterhorn,
which, yes Hannah, insisted on, she promised all of us that she
wouldn't be scared, but in the end the monster won out she was
frightened she closed her eyes for most of the ride. We headed
off to something a little more her style, Toon-Town, this area
is perfect for little ones and early in the morning there were
no crowds, we were able to walk on or had just a few people in
front of us on all the rides. Hannah's favorite ride the Roller-Coaster
just right for her size, we rode it 3 or 4 times. Several of the
Charaters were out and we had a great time asking for the autographs
and getting snapshots.
The crowds at fantasyland were
few as well, so we were able to hop on many rides that can be
quite time consuming later in the day. Many of the rides in Fantasyland
were just too scary for Hannah, these are the indoor rides such
as Mr. Toads Wild Ride and Snow Whites Adventure. The outdoor
rides were much more to her liking, such as Dumbo, the Tea Cups
and Carosel. She loved the ride we all loved to hate "It's
a Small World" this ride can quickly
We spent a day and 1/2 at Disneyland
and felt is enough to sasitfy us all. My daugher (14-years) and
I headed to the park in the evening to hit a few of the new big
rides and just to comment on a few. Indiana Jones is great fun,
a four-wheel drive adventure through the jungle. The blankblank,
as take over where the slow people-mover once was, we found it
fastpaced and exciting, but I'm not sure it was worth the 1:15
minute midnight wait.
One of the days we had tea with
Mary Popins, comes to sing and chat with each person, you put
on fancy hats and pose for pictures, the pefect afternoon for
little girls. We also checked out lunch at Goofey's kitchen, this
is a great place to see the Charters, the crowds are small and
the charters come around to each table. The mad-hatter was teasing
Goofey and all the children had a good laught. Approximatley every
45 minutes they play an Margarina-Disney style dance everyone
gathers around as the charaters dance and Goofey ever does the
splits. Hannah who had never been to a beffet, couldn't believe
she could have Mararoni and Cheese (or as they call it Mic-a-roni),
a hot dog and chicken nuggets all in one meal!
I believe Disneyland is the perfect
choice for smaller children, it is much easier to get around than
the Magic Kingdom (in Florida). The travel time is easier as well.
