Located in the heart
of Lisbon, the Lapa Palace was built in 1870 as a private
residence for a count. Restored in 1992, the hotel offers
unrivalled architectural beauty and elegant decor.
Built in 1870 as the private residence of the Count of Valença,
the Lapa Palace overlooks Lisbon’s Tagus River amid tranquil
gardens dotted with ornamental fountains and streams. Catherine
Deneuve, Cher, and Sting have long luxuriated at the Lapa
Palace, Lisbon's opulent hilltop hotel and member of The
Leading Hotels of the World. The former country house has
also entertained royalty and heads of state since it began
welcoming guests in 1992.
Soon after its rebirth
as a hotel, the Palace was purchased Orient-Express Hotels,
which inaugurated the new Villa wing with 2 suites, 4 junior
suites and 8 rooms, all with balcony and beautiful views
over the gardens. These rooms and suites have been decorated
with Portuguese fabrics and furniture that vary from floor
to floor. The 21 rooms and the Suite Count de Valenças,
a Palace original, were all redecorated in 2003 with Portuguese-crafted
furniture.
The Suite Count of Valenças
and five other deluxe rooms are located on the 5th floor
of the Palace, the Noble floor. These have been carefully
restored with lamps, mirrors, goldleaf, and furniture recovered
from the original Palace's furniture. In all, the Lapa Palace
has 109 guest rooms, all fully-equipped, and many with magnificent
views over the River Tagus and Lisbon or over the oasis
gardens.
Pampering comes in high fashion
at the Lapa Palace Wellness Centre. Some of the facilities
and treatments you can look forward to include Outdoor and
Indoor Pools, Gymnasium, Sauna, Turkish Steam Bath, Solarium,
and Massages. These are varied and include Open Air Massages
in the Garden, Aroma-, Hydro-, La Stone, and Cranio-Sacral
Therapy, as well as Shiatsu Reflexology. Other features
include The Art of Beauty Center with La Prairie, Personal
Trainer, Make-Up Services with Mac Cosmetics, and a Beauty
Salon.
Indoor and open air dining
alike are gourmet affairs. You can choose the lavish dining
room or the garden terrace under sun or moon. The sumptuous
menu offers savory dishes from goat cheese and figs to lamb
and sirloin, topped with desserts like hot chocolate flan
and mango sorbet.
Despite its luxurious air,
take note that the Lapa Palace does not exlude the business
traveler. A fully-equipped, state-of-the-art business center
with secretarial services caters to the needs of working
guests.
Discerning travelers who
want only the best of everything for their Portugal vacation
will find it at Lapa Palace, which offers not only elegance
and history but a staff that, in the words of a grateful
guest, "deliver service that feels like kindness".
